Ghosts of the Places We Live Metrics Update #3 – Now With Bonus Con Report and Birthday

Today is my birthday. I’ve made it to 49 years old, which is a frankly better than some male members of my family, so every year is blessing. Happy birthday to me.

It is also Wednesday, so time to post metrics and comments about the previous week.

Went to Con of the North last weekend, but due to circumstances mostly out of my control, I missed Saturday and Sunday. Maybe next year will be better. In other convention news, I’ve submitted my panel picks for CONvergence and need to submit my picks for MarsCon.

Saw the cover art proof for Dark Waters, my near-future dystopian urban fantasy with some steampunk elements. It captures the two main characters quite well. Look for the novel sometime in late March or early April, probably in time for Minicon. I will post it here when I get the okay from the publisher.

Ghosts of the Places We Live continues to move forward.

1 All new words since the last post. I’ve finished polishing up recycled pieces of dead projects.

2. The You Know You Are From Oney When… Facebook page has been a wealth of information, supplementing what I’ve gotten from the Oney History book and filling in gaps. The Oney community online is pretty amazing. And frankly, larger than the town itself.

3. Downloaded a few more reference photographs.

4. Changed a minor aspect of a main character.

5. Thought veryvery hard about the ending of the novel and the tension between using a real-world setting and then setting fictional and fantastical elements in the setting.

6. Lost Oney School. Probably in the early 1930s.

The next update will fall on Tuesday, since I am changing my schedule at my real-world job and will be working on Wednesdays starting next week.
